What is Credentialing?

Credentialing is required for all medical offices and providers who treat patients which includes Medical Doctors, Mid-level Practitioners, such as Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Mid-Wives, Physician Assistants, Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants. Plus, you can have your office credentialed with a Medicare DMEPOS application that allows you to bill Medicare for supplies that your office uses to treat patients, such as surgical dressings, crutches, nebulizor supplies, etc.

Why so many Categories?

Each category is required to obtain certain levels of credentialing that allows you to bill for Medicare, Public Aid, Humana Tricare (Military patients and families), and other third party payers. The more plans you are credentialed with, equals more encounters your office can submit for payment.

Do we need it?

This standard is obligatory for almost every state, whether you are an urgent care facility or a private practice regardless of how many providers or care givers are part of the clinic. State and Federal regulations dictate the licensing and requirements needed to be in compliance to operate your facility.
